Here are the girls giving "rides" to toys. Annie's determined to have Siri interacting with her, which is quite delightful!

Annie has been enjoying watching the "The Jolly Holiday" sequence (she calls it "Dancing Penguins") of Mary Poppins lately. I enjoy it as well, enjoy hearing her sing "Oh, it's a jolly holiday with you, Bert, gentlemen like you are few..." (she really is quite good at picking up lyrics!) around the house, enjoy the movie itself. The one aspect of it that I'm not sure I've enjoyed is looking at Julie Andrews playing Mary, and thinking, for the first time in my life, that she looks young. In fact, she was three years younger than I am now when she made Mary Poppins. Yikes. That makes me feel old.
We've been getting all of our vegetable produce from a CSA this summer, splitting our share with friends, and still ending up with more vegetables than we know what to do with. It's been a great challenge, we're trying out new veggies, and in searching out recipes for preparing them, we've been inspired to try other new recipes as well. We'll definitely be doing it again next summer.
There is a family from church who has two daughters--one, Ani, is two days older than Annie, and the other, Norah, shares a birthday with Siri. We've been having fun playing with them this month, the older girls are at the fun place where they're starting to really engage with each other. Siri and Norah, of course, are not, but it's fun to watch them lay next to each other and see their personalities starting to emerge.
We celebrated our good friend Ella's first birthday this weekend. It's hard to believe how much changes in the course of a year--there is no better reminder of this than these little ones. We've missed seeing Ella on a regular basis this summer, and that makes all of her growth that much more dramatic. Annie was very excited to be heading to her birthday party, especially anticipating the cake.
Last night was quite chilly, we woke up needing to put slippers on. Last night, "The Santa Clause" was on TV, today's "Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me" was a rerun from a holiday show...It has me thinking a lot about Christmas time. I've always loved (maybe a bit obsessively) Christmas, and having little ones only makes it more fun!! Yes, I know it's August, but the world seems to be telling me it's time to get planning...
