Happy Birthday, dear Siri!

On Saturday, May 30th, we awoke to Annie falling out of her big girl bed at midnight. I couldn't get back to sleep as contractions had started getting a bit more significant. It wasn't until breakfast time that it seemed like there was anything worth going to the hospital for, so we played with Annie, read our "Baby on the Way" book one last time, and Annie told the baby she'll see it soon.

Then, Julie (camera in hand!), my Mom (doula bag ready), Eric and I headed to the hospital. When we got there, I hadn't progressed much past my previous doctor's appointment, but after an hour and a half of walking around the hospital, I was in active labor and it seemed the day was to be Siri's birthday! We settled into the room, Julie ran out for lunch, and by the time she returned I was in transition. At 2:29, Siri Carolyn was born. She weighed 9 lbs and 7 oz and was 22 inches long.

Here are Eric and me introducing ourselves to her...

When Annie woke up from her nap, Grandpa brought her to the hospital to meet Siri for the first time. She did a wonderful job, and was seemed genuinely happy to be a big sister.

After eating dinner all together, Eric took Annie home for bath and bedtime and then returned to the hospital where we gave Siri her first bath.

The whole afternoon I was in awe that Siri had actually arrived. The day was a wonderful blur, and we were (are!) so thankful that everything went so smoothly. My dad had been challenging her to be cooperative, and she was indeed--she waited till all of our out-of-town help was settled in, picked a Saturday so we didn't have to find Daddy at work, gave us the morning to help Annie adjust, and came in time for us to have a wonderful afternoon together as a family. She is indeed cooperative, and we feel so blessed that we have such a healthy little girl. Two healthy little girls. Wow.
